Dear Bill, I speak here in Brazil!

Working in a group of 8 newspapers in southern Brazil and currently we are still maintaining the billing with the classified ads.

My question is:
- How we are not yet going through as a drop in U.S. market, which would give you advice for those who have not passed the same situation?

Thank you.

Jan - Reinventing classifieds IS a new revenue stream. We're not talking about minor changes or tweaking -- bur rather wholesale reinvention.

Are you kidding? The problem with classifieds is they don't exist in newspapers because the Web is more efficient. Readers aren't stupid - they are going to post their ads in a medium that gives them results. There are quite a few (maybe all) newspaper issues that design doesn't solve. Let's focus on coming up with new revenue streams for newspapers and realize that classifieds are not coming back. That train has left the station and all the expensive redesigns in the world will not fix the problem.
